Brutally Honest on ShockNet - 01/31/09 Show Notes

You know, it wasn't that long ago when we were complaining about a certain Texas doofus that kept himself in a delusion bubble. Sadly we are finding out that he wasn't the only one with a delusion bubble. The "great disconnect" is so strong that it knocked someone into getting an Unflushed Award. Just how bad did this person screw up? Is it enough to give him or her the big clogger or just a "floater"? Find out tonight!

Also, what DOES it take to fix the economy? Find out from the guy that has a far BETTER track record at spotting these things than the people in power.

And tonight's show will kick off the start of a new series called "Dangerous Words". What are they and why are they dangerous? Find out!

All of that is TONIGHT (01/24) here on ShockNet Radio at 7pm Eastern Time (6pm Norman time and 4pm Hefner Time) over at www.shocknetradio.com and also at Apple's iTunes Radio Player under either "Classic Rock" or "Talk/Spoken Word" categories.

The economy

Yes it really is this bad.

And the "Great Disconnect" is explained!

And the great part is that I don't have to explain it! It pretty much says it all!

yes it's THAT bad...

The really REALLY scary part is that although this was done in jest,it could very well be tomorrow's REAL news story!

Brutally Honest on ShockNet - 01/24/09 Show Notes

This week's show was a little spirited, partly because I'm taking down some of the key pillars of neo-con thinking.

Pillar #1: the myth about torture. You know these neo-cons really sold America a bill of goods about torture, and they really don't care about the consequences of that scam. It's high time that the TRUTH comes out about this.

Pillar #2: the myth about business and capitalism. You want to know what REALLY pushes people towards socialism? I'll tell you what it is using a certain "letter" that has been spread around the Internet of late.

One more thing... the quality of tonight's program may be a little off. Sorry, but when I was putting the show together I was getting some interference from the cables. I have since fixed the connection and tried to filter out the static I was getting, but you may hear a bit of it in the show itself. Unfortunately that's part of the problem when you're adjusting to more powerful toys.

The reason for the flub

Chief Justice John Roberts screwed up the reciting of the Oath of Office for President Obama. You would think that this guy would know better, huh? I mean, it's not that hard to figure out. It's not like that five-minute diatribe that the VP is supposed to utter.

But someone actually came up with a reason why Roberts flubbed up the oath...

Thankfully someone got Roberts to show up last night to re-administer it with Obama.

Breaking News: COPA IS DEAD!

It's finally game over for the ill-named Child Online Protection Act.

This is the sequel to the Communications Decency Act (thus earning the name CDA 2.0) that would have outlawed anything considered "indecent" online. The original CDA, incorporated into the Telecommunications Reform Act of 1996, was seriously neutered by the Supreme Court in the classic decision Reno v. ACLU. This is where the majority decision declared that the Internet was the greatest possible forum for free speech and thus deserved the greatest possible protection from government intrusion under the First Amendment.

The government responded in 1998 by passing COPA, which supposedly was designed to address specific areas of the Internet and required specific changes in websites in order to "protect children". President Bill Clinton knew that this law would not pass constitutional muster and yet he violated his Oath of Office and signed it into law anyway, saying that it was "for the courts to decide", even though they had already decided in the Reno v. ACLU decision.

The Supreme Court actually gave COPA two chances to survive. The first was when they reversed a lower court decision saying that it could not issue a blanket restraining order without first having a hearing. But thsoe same five justices did warn the government that the law WOULD PROBABLY NOT pass constitutional muster should it come before them. The White House, then under the control of the Bush Imperium, dragged their ass during the hearing, hoping to wear out the plaintiff through attrition. They failed, and the law was ruled unconstitutional.

And now the Supreme Court has put the final nail in the coffin of COPA/CDA2.0 by refusing to review the decision and let stand the lower court's ruling.

This is a law that never should have been written. It was crafted in vengeance, pushed into action by self-rightous special interest groups, signed into law by a president that violated his Oath of Office, and defended by TWO White House tenures that didn't care about the Constitution.

The good news is that it is DEAD. Hopefully it will NOT come back again through some other legislation... but I wouldn't be the farm on that.

quick Inaugural thought

Oh tell me I didn't hear that....

Oh tell me I DID NOT HEAR TWO MILLION PEOPLE sing the "Nya-Nya-Nya-Nya" song as George W. Bush, now the FORMER President of the United States, flew out town!

Yes, I did hear it.

Oh that's rich!

Will Junior Do It?

Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock...

The hour fast approaches....

Will Junior do it?

Will he pardon the people who should never be pardoned?

Will he pardon Scooter? Cheney? Harriet? Rove? Will he pardon the Enron executives? Will he pardon the Abu Graib soldiers? Will he pardon the people at Blackwater? Or the ones at Haliburton?

Or how about Barney? You know that little slipper-muncher actually ATTACKED a reporter!

How about Blago? Will Blago get pardoned? Boy that would be a slap in the face for federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, the same guy that successfully prosecuted Scooter.

How about Spitzer? You know, help out a fellow Republican.

Oh, hey, how about those banking and investment officials that are responsible for really hosing the economy?

Or maybe he already pardoned anyone and everyone listed above, including throwing one in for himself, and kept them all a "Homeland Security" secret until after he leaves. Now that's a scary thought, isn't it?

Or how about those two Border cops that got thrown in prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the ass? You know, Ramos and Campion? The two that Lou Dobbs constantly bitches and cries over.

But, you know, time's a-wasting... can't have Junior sit on it forever. He has until 12noon tomorrow and then he loses that power.

Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock...

Update: Junior just commuted the sentences of those two border cops, but he didn't flat-out pardon them. It was probably the best compromise, although you know Dobbsy will still be pissed.

Still no word about pardoning Barney.
