Special 2012 Audio Rant

Given the tragedy in Connecticut and the discussion that followed, I came up with this special audio rant.

The audio is also available on iTunes, so those that subscribe to the Archives should see it show up in their iTunes player.

Be sure to join us on January 28th, 2013 at 8pm ET, 7pm CT, for the return of "Brutally Honest - LIVE!" on www.ShockNetRadio.com

A typically thoughtful and excellent analysis, D2!! I am that person who was the team manager, the geeky loser, the tormented loner ... and yes, I managed to overcome all that. Your prediction is right on! But I have no illusions that what happened to me will happen to anyone else if they just do what I did. My experiences are my own and they may or may not apply to anyone else. The objective evidence is that many do not emerge from that situation. I wish I could wave a magic wand and make things better for everyone, but I can't. In fact, I don't have a clue as to why I've been so unbelievably lucky, where many people I know have not. You deserve so much better, my friend!

Really nice piece David. I've been there as well - as a two-year manager on the football team at my high school, taking all sorts of crap from not only (some) of the players, but coaches and even a couple of other managers.

And I've had feelings of wanting to off myself, especially when I was away from home and was working almost non-stop and totally isolated and alone. I still have no idea how I managed to get out of it when I was about rock bottom and being told the same things you were being told when you reached out.

I hope many, many more hear these words of yours and take them to heart. Sadly, I fear that will not be the case. And that's really too bad. Like Chuck said, you and your message deserve a lot better.

Nice rant. While we've made some progress on people with mental problems, it is still an uncomfortable subject. It's easier to play the accuser then go for the core. Sometimes we don't even know the core is and need a substitute to make some sense.

You should see what some idiots who think the culture is too "passive/feminized" (see Charlotte Allen) because no one played macho in the incident. Instead of protecting the kids, they should've psychically taken on the shooter.
