Of course, for many local politicians here in America, the real sweets are this coming Tuesday with Election Day. A day that most people will probably ignore, but they really shouldn't.

Given the forthcoming local elections, and the fact that it falls on Guy Fawkes Day, I thought maybe we should look at what it would take to really fix government. Because there ARE some ideas being floated about, ranging from fixing how we are taxed to term limits and even one radical method of supposedly holding members of the U.S. Senate in line. We'll go over that and some others you may have either in the chat room or by calling in through our TOLL-FREE number.

Because we know that something is wrong; we just can't seem to agree as to what needs to be done to fix it.

And yet... what else is there to talk about?

Prior to the GOP throwing their temper tantrum and forcing a shutdown of the federal government, there were news reports about how things seem to be getting better.

Foreclosures are down, layoffs are down, home prices are starting to go up, and the Federal Reserve continues to toy with the idea that they would end the Wall Street money trough.

And yet, I look around and things really don't look like they're getting better.

So I have to wonder... ARE things really getting better? Or are we just getting better at LYING to ourselves?

You'll hear my thoughts on that, and then I'll want to know what YOU think. Oh, and if you want to talk about the GOP tantrum, you can do that as well.

It recently occurred to me how much we've changed in the seventeen years that I've been doing Brutally Honest commentary.

When I first got started doing this, the idea of same-sex marriages scared the crap out of the great unwashed... so much so that even the liberal-leaning Clintons were backing a federal ban on it. Today, it's got a tacit Supreme Court nod and a good portion of the states will either recognize them or at the very least not discriminate against them.

Pot legalization?  Are you kidding?  Even the idea of allowing it only for medicinal purposes was considered to be just a pipe dream! Now you have states that are not only doing that, but they are out-and-out legalizing it in small amounts! And the federal government is supposedly giving those states a wide berth. 

Things that were once thought of as out-of-your-mind are becoming okay. So what's next? Will it be... legalized brothels? Hey, I'd be down for that if it's done right!

Meanwhile the cons and neo-cons are throwing fits and tantrums over... well, over everything! They really are getting to be just a bomb and a gun away from full Christian jihadism.

So what I want to know is... what's your take on all this? Where do you stand? Are we ready for the "new and scary"? Or are you trying to find the emergency brake to slam on hard?

Pope Francis, the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, has REALLY been hitting the headlines, hasn't he?

So far he's castigated Big Corporate for their parasitic predatory philosophy of plunder, he's insisted on living a humble existence, telling priests to give up luxury cars, he's making personal phone calls to the common people...

And now he's saying the Church needs to change its attitude or else it is DOOMED!

Well I happen to think he's right on that front, and that's speaking as one that has not only grown up Catholic, but also graduated from one of the top liberal arts colleges in New England that is run by monks and nuns!

But I want to know what you think about this. I know there are several theists, atheists, Catholics, non-Catholic Christians, and "others" that listen to my show. (Okay, maybe one of each... I don't what to delude myself too much here.) So this is your opportunity to speak up on the subject. Do you agree with Pope Francis? Do you think the Church needs to change to accommodate the shifting demographic and evolving attitudes? Do you think the Catholic Church itself CAN change? Or do you think it's too late for that?

If you've been listening to the show, you'd know that our call screener, Gladys, was supposedly impregnated by simply looking at the picture of the super-testosterone Monster.

Well we've known from the get-go that this would be an unusual pregnancy.

Not only did she give birth, but it was to TWINS!

Monster tried to stop us from posting the pics, but we just got approval today to do it... and on Monster's birthday no less!

Bear in mind that even though they're only a few weeks old, they're already physically 10.

So what if we could take care of the problem with all of those foreclosed homes still left vacant because of Too Big To Fail?

You know, the homes that have been left to rot because the greedy bank executives just don't care enough to keep the lawns mowed and the sidings painted. Nobody is living in them. There's no local tax revenue being generated because of that.

What if the local government could take those homes off the hands of the greedy bank criminals? They'd still get fair market price, and the local governments can then oversee the sale of those homes to people that could afford to live in them.

Sounds good, right? After all, the government has been pretty much given cart blanche to take property from others through eminent domain so they can hand that property over to other private entities. And it would be for the exact same pretense they used before... namely to increate the tax revenue off that property, because right now they're not getting any.

Is it right? Are you for it? And why are the greedy bank criminals against it if they know they're getting money out of the deal?

I've talked about this in an earlier show, but I really want to know what you think about it.

You know, for someone who started his tenure by winning the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama seems to have a really perverse fixation on WAR.

First there was Iraq and Afghanistan... and granted he basically had to clean up Junior's messes in those countries. Then there were the Somali pirates. Then there was Libya.

And now there's Syria... maybe... if Congress is somehow able to fight THE SCRIPT. You know, the same SCRIPT that FoxNews hashes out on a continual basis with their so-called "experts" telling people that we HAVE to go to Syria and we HAVE to stay in Syria and it's GOING to be a fuster-cluck no matter what we do, but we have to do it anyway. Oh, and these are the same so-called "experts" that were telling us that we HAD to go to Iraq and we HAD to fight Saddam Hussein and that is was GOING to be a fuster-cluck no matter what we did, but we HAD to do it anyway.

Speaking of which, I don't feel sorry for the trained parrots of FoxNews... because they're reciting from a SCRIPT that they automatically want to HATE simply because it's being done under Obama's watch!

BUT... should we be going there? And are we doing it for the right reasons? Or is this yet another ego-driven war, like Iraq was for Bush Junior?
